Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Liaoning. The Sanchazi Gr was named by Saito in 1943. The type locality is around Sanchazi, Hengdaohezi Township, Tieling County, Liaoning Province. Synonym: The Fanhe Gr and relevant "series" (group) names should be abolished.

Synonym: (三岔子群)


Lithology and Thickness

The Sanchazi Gr is subdivided into the Daposhan Fm, Kangzhuangzi Fm and Guanmenshan Fm from bottom to top. The lower part, Daposhan Fm, is composed of pebbly quartz sandstone sandwiched with variant-grained dolomite. The middle part, Kangzhuangzi Fm, consists of quartz sandstone, slate and microcrystalline dolomite. The upper part, Guanmenshan Fm, is grey intra-clastic dolomite. Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in unconformable contact with underlying Archean strata.

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Tongjiajie Fm (lowest formation of Shuyatun Gr.)

Regional extent

Northeast Liaoning. Based on the outcrops, it distributed east of Tan-Lu Fault, the middle reaches of Fanhe River, north part of Fushun, Tieling City, and east part of Kaiyuan County, Liaoning Province.

Fossils

The dolomite contains stromatolites, while the slate, microplants.


Age 

The Rb-Sr isochron date recorded for the group is 1284.8 Ma. (Liaoning Geological Institute, 1982). Schematic stratigraphic column shows it spanning the Changchengian (Statherian)
